APPLICATION

This BS 6724 600/1000V four-core cable combines aluminium conductors, XLPE insulation, galvanised steel wire armour (SWA) and an LSZH outer sheath. It is intended for fixed low-voltage power distribution in buildings, infrastructure and industrial installations requiring mechanical protection and low-smoke, halogen-free sheathing.

Four-core arrangements can serve three-phase circuits with a neutral where specified by the project design. Typical routes include cable trays, ducts, risers, plant rooms and protected underground systems. The dedicated parameter table below contains 13 entries from 16 to 300 mm², including separate starred and unstarred entries at 25 and 35 mm².

KEY FEATURES

  • Four-core aluminium conductor cable rated at 600/1000V.

  • XLPE insulation, polymeric bedding, galvanised steel wire armour and an LSZH outer sheath.

  • Size range of 16-300 mm², with 13 parameter rows covering conductor-form variants.

  • Starred entries are identified in the original table note as Class 1 solid-shaped conductors.

  • Size-specific layer dimensions, approximate overall diameters and weights for specification and installation planning.

SELECTION NOTES

Select the exact conductor variant. Keep the asterisk when specifying a starred table entry. At 25 mm², the approximate overall diameters are 26.9 mm for 4 x 25 and 24.6 mm for 4 x 25*. At 35 mm², they are 29.5 mm for 4 x 35 and 27 mm for 4 x 35*. These entries must remain distinct. The general construction table covers several family options; confirm the conductor form and class for unstarred entries, and the final insulation grade, on the approved supply drawing or quotation.

Check the circuit and installation requirements. Select the conductor size for the circuit loading, voltage drop, fault requirements and actual installation conditions. The technical table lists a minimum bending radius of 6 times overall diameter for 16 mm² and 8 times overall diameter for 25 mm² and above. Confirm production dimensions, glands, terminations, armour bonding and earthing, and any additional pulling requirements for the supplied cable.

Specify the delivery and environment. Provide total length, drum lengths, sheath colour, installation route, required standards and test documents, packing and delivery destination. Confirm any direct-burial, water, sunlight or chemical exposure requirements. The gallery contains single-core and three-core family illustrations; use the four-core parameter table and approved construction drawing to define the supplied cable.

FAQ

What does the asterisk mean in the parameter table?

The original note identifies starred entries as solid-shaped conductors, Class 1. This applies to 4 x 25*, 4 x 35* and the starred entries from 4 x 50* through 4 x 300*. Confirm the conductor construction of the unstarred entries separately.

Why are 25 and 35 mm² listed twice?

Each size has a starred and an unstarred entry with a different approximate overall diameter. Retain the full row designation, including the asterisk where applicable, when requesting a quotation or selecting glands and accessories.

Does this four-core cable use steel or aluminium wire armour?

The multicore construction entry specifies galvanised steel wire armour, and the dedicated parameter table lists steel wire armour diameter. The single-core aluminium wire armour illustration in the gallery is a family reference and does not define this four-core product.

Which core colours are listed?

The four-core colour entry is blue, brown, black and grey. Confirm the required core identification and the circuit's protective-conductor and earthing arrangement with the project designer before ordering.

Can this cable be installed underground?

Confirm suitability for the proposed duct, trench or direct-burial arrangement, including moisture conditions and mechanical protection. The installation route and project requirements must be agreed for the cable supplied.

Does LSZH mean the cable will maintain circuit integrity in a fire?

No. The listed flame-retardance, halogen-content and smoke-density references do not establish a fire-resistant circuit-integrity classification or survival duration. Obtain product-specific test evidence where continued operation during fire is required.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Provide BS 6724, 600/1000V, four-core aluminium conductor, the exact size and starred or unstarred variant, SWA armour, total length and drum lengths. Include conductor construction, insulation specification, core identification, sheath requirements, installation conditions, documents, packing and delivery details.
