APPLICATION

BURY CABLE BS 7846 600/1000V fire resistant cable is intended for fixed power and control circuits where a mica fire barrier, steel wire armour and an LSZH sheath are specified. The range covers 2-5 core and multicore constructions for building services and infrastructure projects.

Typical project settings include power stations, rail and underground passenger systems, airports, hospitals, hotels, high-rise buildings and petrochemical facilities. Suitability for an essential circuit depends on the required fire performance, cable size, installation conditions and supporting test evidence.

This page describes the mica glass tape and XLPE version. HEPR and crosslinked polyolefin insulation are options subject to specification confirmation.

KEY FEATURES

  • 600/1000V rating with Class 2 stranded annealed copper conductors.

  • Mica glass tape fire barrier and XLPE GP8 insulation.

  • Galvanized steel wire armour for mechanical protection.

  • LSZH LTS1 outer sheath; black as standard, with other colours on request.

  • Original tables cover 2, 3, 4 and 5 cores, plus 7, 12, 19, 27 and 37 cores.

b Shaped stranded conductor (Class 2).

c Cables with alternative armour wire size.

SELECTION NOTES

  • Specify core count, conductor size, circuit duty and installation method. Have the circuit designer check current capacity, voltage drop, fault duty and protective conductor arrangements.

  • Match the exact table row, including suffixes a, b or c. Conductor shape and armour wire size can change diameter and weight. Use the corresponding values for glands, supports and routing.

  • The listed operating limit is 90°C, with 250°C for a 5-second short circuit and a minimum bending radius of 8 times overall diameter. These are separate limits; confirm the installation design.

  • Confirm the required fire test, classification and duration against reports for the supplied construction. Standard references alone do not establish a project-specific fire survival rating.

  • HEPR/EI5 insulation and UV, oil, hydrocarbon, rodent or termite resistance are optional. Request the exact construction and supporting data before specifying these properties.

FAQ

What is the standard insulation for this product?

XLPE GP8 over a mica glass tape fire barrier. HEPR GP6 and EI5 crosslinked polyolefin are optional constructions, not the default insulation on this page.

Is this a screened BS 7629-1 cable?

No. This is a 600/1000V BS 7846 steel wire armoured construction. The related 300/500V screened products have different constructions and circuit requirements.

Does this page confirm a particular fire survival duration?

No specific duration or classification is stated. Confirm the required test conditions and results for the supplied cable using the relevant test report.

What do the table suffixes mean?

Suffix a denotes circular or compacted circular Class 2 conductors; b denotes shaped Class 2 conductors; c denotes an alternative armour wire size. Retain the suffix when requesting a quoted construction.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Send the core count, conductor cross-section, quantity, installation environment and required fire test evidence. Include any sheath or insulation options and preferred drum lengths.
